Job Description:
Blue Water Thinking is seeking a motivated and skilled Lead Terminologist to support the Department of Veterans Affairs. In this role, you will be the terminology expert for clinical informatics projects and lead the terminology resources to ensure the terminology work is of high-quality. You will be responsible for analyzing the impact, feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of existing and/or proposed clinical standards, candidate terminologies, regulations, programs and policies. You will provide the highest level of expert consultation for the large scale implementation of clinical informatics projects within VHA and with external partners such as the DoD. Responsibilities:
- Oversee the team responsible for providing authoritative guidance for terminology development and implementations efforts
- Participates in the development of specifications and provides review and verification of national health information activities to recommend, define and prioritize appropriate clinical terminologies for implementation in clinical information systems to support the development of reusable, high quality clinical data and interoperable health exchange with partners.
- Analyzes the impact, feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of existing and/or proposed clinical standards, candidate terminologies, regulations, programs and policies.
- Support various projects and programs within the Department of Veterans Affairs and with external partners such as the DoD.
- Provide leadership and innovation in recommending, defining and prioritizing the appropriate clinical terminologies in clinical information systems as it relates to activities such as assessing, planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating clinical terminologies and their relation to other project undertakings such as information models, information systems, clinical processes, and emerging technologies that supports patient care at the program and/or enterprise level.
- Provides clinical terminology expertise to ensure accurate analysis, documentation and fulfillment of program needs.
- Serves as a clinical terminology consultant, curator and creator to support program, Department and related national priority initiatives.
- Maintains current knowledge of policy, guidance, and other regulatory agency requirements that govern Health Standards Terminology activities.
- Analyze new and complex project-related problems, creating innovative solutions.
- Coordinate necessary support resources for the successful completion of projects.
- Monitor project progress, making adjustments as necessary to ensure timely and cost-effective completion.
- Collaborate with federal stakeholders and cross-functional teams to align Agile delivery with mission objectives, compliance, and procurement constraints.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in nursing or equivalent clinical specialty.
- 10 years’ experience in terminology development and implementation.
- Proven ability to lead and manage large or complex projects working with federal agencies or contractors.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- MS Office suite skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Outlook, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated success in VA environment.
Eligibility:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the required federal public trust clearance for this role
Compensation:
Salary for this position is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, location, the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies and experience, as well as contract specific affordability and organizational requirements. The proposed salary range for this position is outlined below.
Salary range: $100,000 - $150,000
