About Convergent Research

We are a non-profit organization founded in 2021. We identify scientific bottlenecks and launch Focused Research Organizations (FROs). FROs are scientific institutions created to tackle projects that are too big for academic labs, need more coordination than consortia, and aren’t profitable enough for venture-backed startups or industrial R&D. These ambitious, temporary initiatives create high-value public goods β€”like new technologies and infrastructure β€”that accelerate scientific discovery. We provide shared operational support to these FROs.

For example, [C]Worthy is a FRO that develops C-Star, an open-source toolkit for advanced ocean modeling. They also created the OAE Efficiency Map for Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement. Another FRO, PTI, is a non-profit research institute developing mass tags for multiplexed protein analysis using mass spectrometry.
