Role Overview

As a Lead for Data Retention and Compliance Monitoring, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with global regulatory standards for document retention. You will design frameworks, monitor adherence, and collaborate across Legal, IT, and business units to mitigate risks and maintain compliance integrity

What You Will Do

  • Framework Development: Design, implement, and maintain a robust framework for document retention review and compliance monitoring aligned with global regulatory standards.
  • Policy & Procedure Management: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, update, and enforce internal data retention policies and procedures.
  • Document Evaluation & Action: Execute systematic data reviews using advanced e-discovery techniques, keyword searches, and metadata analysis to ensure adherence to retention periods. Assess existing documents for necessity and take appropriate action per established protocols.
  • Investigative Data Analytics & Forensics: Perform deep-dive analysis on large datasets to detect patterns of non-compliance, anomalies, and potential risks related to data retention. Collaborate with IT and data owners to understand data storage systems and execute targeted data queries and reviews.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Continuously monitor document retention practices to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Lead remediation efforts for identified gaps or violations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Legal and compliance stakeholders to integrate new or updated regulatory requirements for data retention into the compliance framework and ensure integration with monitoring process.
  • Training & Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs to enhance organizational awareness of data retention policies and best practices.
  • Reporting & Insights: Prepare comprehensive reports and dashboards for senior management, highlighting compliance status, risk areas, and actionable recommendations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor/master’s degree in law, Accountancy, Information Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • 12+ years of proven experience in compliance, legal, or information governance roles with a focus on data/document retention and e-discovery
  • Strong understanding of global legal and regulatory requirements (e.g., privacy laws, industry-specific mandates)
  • Hands-on experience in data analysis, forensic investigation, and e-discovery tools (keyword searching, data filtering, metadata review)
  • High level of discretion and professional judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across Legal, IT, and business units

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as CIPP, CIPT or information governance
  • Experience with data governance, e-discovery platforms, forensic tools, and information lifecycle management software
  • Project management experience in compliance or risk-related initiatives
  • Exposure to global, fast-paced, multilingual environments
  • Technical knowledge of data storage systems, cloud environments, and security protocols

Type of work model

  • Hybrid

Our Hybrid work model: Coupang hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration that acts a catalyst to enrich the experience of employees. Employees are required to work at least 3 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 2 days a week, depending on the role requirement. Some businesses may require more time in office due to nature of work.
