Job Description

Position: Release Manager

Datacom Location: Anywhere across AU and NZ

Security Requirements: Citizens and Residents of either country ONLY.

Full Time, Permanent Position.

Our Why

Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help them to use the power of tech to innovate and grow.

About the Role (Your Why)

Datacom is seeking a Release Manager to own and mature application release management for our internal ServiceNow platform. This role is a key part of our Core Services capability, ensuring the platform is released safely, predictably, and in alignment with Datacom’s governance, security, and operational standards.

The role is internally focused, working with delivery teams, platform owners, operations, and governance forums to coordinate and control releases into production. While the primary focus is ServiceNow (including upgrades, enhancements, integrations, and configuration changes), there is opportunity to expand release practices across other enterprise platforms over time.

This role sits at the intersection of platform governance, change enablement, delivery, and operations, keeping Datacom’s platforms stable while enabling continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

As Release Manager at Datacom, you will:

  • Own and manage the end‑to‑end release lifecycle for the ServiceNow platform, from release planning and scheduling through to deployment, validation, and post‑release review.

  • Define, run, and continuously improve fit‑for‑purpose release management processes, ensuring alignment with Datacom’s Change Enablement, security, and SDLC standards.

  • Maintain and govern release calendars, managing dependencies and conflicts across multiple teams, initiatives, and environments.

  • Work closely with ServiceNow platform teams, project delivery, operations, CAB, and vendors to ensure releases are well planned and low risk.

  • Ensure release readiness across all required dimensions, including:

    • Testing and quality assurance completion
    • Security, privacy, and compliance readiness
    • Support and operational readiness
    • Implementation, rollback, and communication planning
  • Proactively manage release-related risks, issues, and escalations, minimising disruption to live environments.

  • Drive continuous improvement in Release and Change practices through metrics, retrospectives, and lessons learned.

  • Ensure release processes integrate cleanly with related Datacom processes, including ITIL practices, project delivery, and platform governance.

What You’ll Bring

You are a pragmatic, outcomes‑focused Release Manager who understands operating at enterprise scale. You bring structure and clarity without unnecessary bureaucracy and can confidently hold the release narrative across diverse stakeholders.

You will have:

  • Experience in application or platform release management, ideally within an enterprise or MSP environment.
  • A strong working knowledge of ITIL-aligned Change and Release practices, applied pragmatically.
  • The ability to work effectively across technical and non‑technical teams, translating complex release activity into clear communication.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills, with experience coordinating multiple releases and dependencies.
  • A proactive mindset, with a track record of identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting release information to governance forums.

Nice to Have

  • Hands‑on experience with ServiceNow, particularly:

    • Application/Platform releases and upgrades
    • Change Enablement and Release Management modules
    • Integration or multi‑instance environments
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, automation, or DevOps practices in a SaaS or enterprise platform context.

  • Experience operating within an MSP or shared‑services environment.

  • Familiarity with enterprise governance models, CAB operations, and platform operating models.

  • ITIL 4 certification or equivalent practical experience.
