Job description
Our Why
Datacom works with organisations and communities across Australia and New Zealand to make a difference in people’s lives and help organisations use the power of tech to innovate and grow.
About the Role (your why)
You’ll be joining Datacom’s Local Government Product Engineering team as a Technical Leader, responsible for the managed forms and configuration layer that sits between our ERP and our digital platforms. In this role, you’ll run a shared service that turns cross domain requirements into a clear, prioritised backlog and coordinates delivery across multiple customers and environments.
You’ll be responsible for overseeing the creation, modification, and deployment of configurable solutions and managed forms, ensuring that build and release practices are consistent, scalable, and auditable.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of technology, process, and people – bringing structure to complex demand, leading others through change, and maintaining high standards for quality and customer experience. You’ll act as a bridge between digital and ERP teams, making sure customer-facing forms and related integrations are treated as first-class deliverables.
We like to bring people together in person when we can, but we are mindful of the benefits of working from home for work/life balance. We therefore leave it to you and the team you join to figure out what works best!
What you’ll do
As Technical Leader you will be focused on:
- Shared service intake and prioritisation
Define and manage intake criteria, clarify requirements, and maintain a backlog of work across multiple customers and domains.
- Solution configuration and change
Oversee development of new and existing configuration to meet customer requirements and respond to policy or regulatory changes. This includes ensuring managed forms are correctly designed, configured, and validated as part of project and BAU work.
Where appropriate, you’ll be comfortable working directly with the configuration artefacts themselves, such as JSON, XML, or JavaScript-based expressions used in integrations and forms logic.
- Environment and release management
Coordinate deployments across multiple customers, tenants, and environments, ensuring consistent, controlled promotion of changes through effective, auditable rollout processes that minimise disruption to customers and internal stakeholders.
You’ll help maintain visibility of what is deployed where, and the readiness of changes (including managed forms) for go-live.
- Standards and best practices
Establish and enforce build patterns, templates, and quality gates to ensure consistency, scalability, and repeatability. Operate the shared-service model with clear, documented processes and transparent prioritisation, bringing structure and governance.
- Change management and communication
Define and execute change strategies, stakeholder communication plans, and readiness activities so that customers and internal teams are informed, aligned, and prepared for upcoming changes.
- Technical guidance and mentoring
Provide hands-on guidance to configuration engineers and adjacent teams. Uphold engineering and configuration standards, and conduct reviews for quality, security, performance, and accessibility. Help build a community of practice around configuration and managed forms by sharing knowledge and uplifting others.
We are an agile company, and are keen to respond to customer, technology and internal stakeholders’ changing requirements – which means our roles can evolve over time to meet those needs.
What you’ll bring
Required experience and skills:
· 3+ years’ experience in configuration management or closely related delivery/operations roles.
· Proven experience leading teams and/or cross functional initiatives.
· Strong industry knowledge related to configurable applications and multi environment deployment.
· Solid understanding of configuration management, CI/CD, and release engineering practices.
· Experience working within a SaaS environment.
· Familiarity with enterprise systems (e.g. ERP/CRM) and related integrations; experience with customer-facing forms or digital channels is a plus.
· Ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels.
· Ability to solve complex technical and process problems with clear, measurable business impact.
· Strong presentation, facilitation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence without formal authority.
· Proven analytical skills and a data driven approach to prioritisation and decision making.
· Excellent communication and customer relationship management skills.
· Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across large, cross functional teams.
· Bachelor’s degree in IT, Business, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
Nice to have:
· Experience designing and operating shared-service models or configuration centres of excellence.
· Exposure to managed/dynamic forms platforms or low-code configuration tools.
· Formal training or certification in IT service management (e.g. ITIL Foundation or higher).
· Exposure to or certification in agile delivery practices or project management (e.g. Scrum, PRINCE2, PMP).
· Experience with common CI/CD toolchains and modern DevOps practices.
