About Economic Security Project
We founded the Economic Security Project in 2016 to advocate for ideas that build economic power for all Americans. We support research, back policy leaders, and challenge traditional thinking to push for new policy ideas. Our work includes giving out grants, running campaigns, creating new projects and research, and bringing together academics, organizers, practitioners, donors, and cultural figures.
We primarily focus on making things more affordable, pushing for cash tax credits (like the expanded Child Tax Credit), and promoting guaranteed income. We also work to limit corporate power and grow the antimonopoly movement.
Here are some key moments in our history:
- 2016: Over 100 entrepreneurs, activists, researchers, and philanthropists came together to promote direct cash payments.
- 2017: We partnered with Mayor Michael Tubbs to start the Stockton guaranteed income pilot program.
- 2018: We supported federal guaranteed income bills, including the BOOST Act by Rep. Rashida Tlaib and the LIFT Act by then-Sen. Kamala Harris.
