The Payment Specialist, reporting to the Payments and Compliance Supervisor, plays a key role in the optimization and monitoring of systems and processes for caterer payments and compliance related activities. This position is vital for ensuring a smooth payment experience for caterers and maintaining the integrity of payment operations. The Payment Specialist will routinely collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to support broader business objectives and may also assist with ad-hoc pay-ins related tasks as needed.
What You’ll Do:
- Payment Processing:
- Ensure weekly payments are delivered to our Catering Partners in a timely manner through payment run preparation and execution, when appropriate.
- Work closely with outsource partners regarding the reissuance of any failed or bounced payments.
- Continue to optimize the payment run for efficiency and cost effectiveness
- Support any new initiatives to enhance, add and/or replace payment providers
- Extensive experience with disbursement/payouts and compliance related requirements (KYC, legal entity verification, etc.)
- Data Analysis and Insights:
- Analyze transaction data to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies that may impact payment performance.
- Reporting:
- Prepare and present reports on payment performance, transaction trends, and key metrics for leadership and internal stakeholders.
- Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
- Serve as a point of contact for our payment providers for any Payout/KYC/Compliance issues.
- Investigate technical issues impacting Caterer Payments, escalating to the appropriate engineering team or payment processor.
- Process Optimization:
- Identify opportunities to improve and optimize payment related processes for internal stakeholders and Catering Partners.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with Partner Teams to resolve payment issues and enhance internal processes for managing and handling payments.
- Tax Reporting
- Assist with the annual tax reporting work to ensure timely delivery of 1099K forms to qualified Catering Partners.
- Liens
- Assist the Liens team with requests for assistance
- Locating affected Catering Partners
- Reviewing held funds
- Reviewing lien documents for accuracy
- Liaise with Legal and payment processors when appropriate.
- Assist the Liens team with requests for assistance
What You Have:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with high-volume disbursements/payouts, preferably with e-commerce/online marketplace environments
- Proven track record working with third-party payment providers to resolve failed, bounced, or returned payments
- Strong understanding of payouts compliance requirements, including KYC, legal entity verification, and tax reporting (e.g., 1099-K)
- Demonstrated ability to analyze transaction-level data to identify trends, anomalies, and root causes impacting payment performance
- Familiarity with payment troubleshooting, including working with payment processors and engineering/technical teams to investigate and resolve issues
- Proven success collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., Legal, Finance, Operations, external partners) to resolve payment and compliance issues
- Direct experience supporting or owning on-demand or scheduled payment runs (preparation, review, execution, and reconciliation)
- Experience optimizing payment-related processes for efficiency, accuracy, and cost effectiveness (e.g., routing logic, payment methods, exception handling)
- Experience reviewing lien or other legal/financial documentation and coordinating with Legal and payment processors to ensure accurate handling of held funds
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex payment issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
The national total targetcash compensation range for this position, including base salary and bonus target, is $59,000-$80,000 annually.*
