A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and finance operations. This is an outstanding opportunity for a collaborative finance leader who enjoys building strong teams, improving processes, and using financial insights to support an organization’s long-term impact.
Overview
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will oversee all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and day-to-day finance operations. This role partners closely with executive leadership, supports board reporting, and helps strengthen the organization’s financial infrastructure while ensuring compliance and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, and grants administration
- Oversee financial reporting, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis
- Direct the annual audit process and ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and strong internal controls
- Support organizational budgeting and provide financial guidance to senior leadership
- Manage banking relationships and oversee treasury activities
- Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and strengthen financial operations
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
- CPA preferred
- 6+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience with at least 4 years in a leadership role
- Nonprofit accounting experience preferred, including grants and contract management
- Experience leading audits, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills
