Rate: ZAR 26,000 - 30,000 per month DOE
Intelligent Insurer is seeking an experienced financial journalist to join our global editorial team as a Senior Lead Reporter covering the international re/insurance sector.
This role is suited to a self-sufficient experienced journalist with a strong background in business or financial reporting who can identify news, cultivate senior industry sources and deliver insightful stories for a professional global audience.
You will work remotely from South Africa as part of our international newsroom, reporting directly to the Editor and taking ownership of producing high-value editorial content for senior industry professionals.
Please note: This role is not suitable for junior reporters or recent graduates.

What you’ll be doing
As our Senior Lead Reporter, you will:
- Research, break and write daily news stories on the global re/insurance industry
- Produce insightful features based on financial results, market developments and company strategy
- Develop original editorial ideas and investigative angles
- Interview senior executives and industry leaders
- Translate complex financial data and company announcements into clear editorial coverage
- Contribute to newsletters and digital editorial output
- Work closely with the Editor to maintain high editorial standards
Essential experience
- Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in journalism, ideally covering business, finance, insurance, or another complex B2B sector
- Proven experience writing fast, accurate news stories for professional audiences
- Demonstrable ability to generate original story ideas and angles
- Experience interpreting financial data, company results and market reports
- Confidence interviewing senior executives and industry sources
- Experience working remotely and managing deadlines independently
- Fluent written and spoken English
