Job Description
As a highly motivated Reporter for The Age, you will deliver high-level breaking news, data-driven analysis, and compelling features across our premier digital and print platforms. You will play a critical role in shaping culture and sparking vital conversations for over 6 million monthly readers. This is an opportunity to join a passionate team of Australia’s best journalists and contribute to a 170-year legacy of excellence and innovation.
Day to day you will:
- Generate unique content ideas and regularly break agenda-setting exclusive stories for the daily and weekly news cycle.
- Prepare accurate, balanced, and well-researched reports that maintain the highest standards of ethics and editorial quality.
- Utilise excellent news judgment to meet the fast-paced demands of a modern, 24-hour digital news outlet.
- Proactively develop and manage trusted relationships with political, public service, and community contacts.
- Collaborate effectively across The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, and various national Metro teams.
- Consistently meet agreed audience benchmarks and deadlines while exploring every side of the story.
Qualifications
What you’ll bring:
- A strong journalistic background with demonstrated professional writing experience.
- First-rate news judgment and an extensive, up-to-date knowledge of current affairs.
- The proven ability to identify, articulate, and develop high-quality, impactful stories.
- Strong organisational and leadership skills to navigate a complex media environment.
- The ability to build and maintain diverse relationships across government, interest groups, and emergency services.
- An adaptable mindset, ready to take creative risks and learn quickly in a digital-first newsroom.
