Job Description
Who You Are
You will lead the technical direction for Hirer Shared Services, shaping AI-first platforms that improve developer experience and tech health for teams across the Hirer domain. You will design and evolve critical services such as the domain-wide GraphQL API, audit logging, and centralised authorisation, partnering with Engineering Managers and senior leaders across a distributed team of around 10 people based in Kuala Lumpur, Melbourne and Sydney.
What You Will Do
- Ensure sub-domain services and platforms are fit for purpose, well-architected and aligned to SEEK development practices and technical metrics
- Design, operate and evolve scalable, performant AI-first systems on AWS, including complex GraphQL-based architectures and agentic AI/ML capabilities
- Act as the technical escalation point for your sub-domain, deep-diving into incidents and leading incident reviews, documentation and follow-up improvements
- Uplift engineering discipline by championing CI/CD, TDD/BDD, clean code, secure coding and DevOps practices across multiple teams
- Define and drive technical roadmaps that improve tech health, observability, resilience, security and compliance for shared services
- Partner with Engineering Managers, Heads of Engineering, Architecture, Security and Product to align sub-domain strategy with SEEK’s technical strategy
- Coach and mentor Staff Engineers and Software Engineers, nurturing future technical leaders and fostering a safe, inclusive and engaged engineering culture

- Extensive experience designing, developing and operating cloud-first applications and APIs on AWS, including complex architectures using GraphQL and agentic AI/ML systems
- Proven track record owning services or platforms end to end, including defining and using technical health metrics, logging, monitoring and alerting
- Experience applying and improving CI/CD, TDD/BDD, clean code and DevOps practices across one or more engineering teams
- Demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate technical trade-offs with senior stakeholders, and to lead technical discussions across multiple teams
- Strong background in Software Engineering, Software Architecture, AI-First Platform Engineering, Data Engineering or Systems Engineering/Administration
- Experience coaching and mentoring engineers, driving cross-team collaboration, and contributing to internal or external engineering communities (guilds, meet-ups, conferences, open-source)

We’re hiring for a team in Hirer Engineering at the forefront of SEEK’s AI-first transformation — advancing the capabilities of all engineering teams in the domain through improved developer experience and intelligent shared systems.
The team will have multiple objectives to achieve this mission:
- Drive economies of scale by centralising how engineering teams manage tech health across security, observability, resilience, and compliance.
- Accelerate AI adoption by building and evolving shared platforms that enable engineering teams to develop and deploy agentic AI/ML capabilities at scale.
- Build velocity-oriented architecture that evolves the approaches and capabilities of engineering teams across the domain — including enhancing a domain-wide GraphQL API, audit logging system, and centralised authorisation system, while developing new systems where necessary.
