The General Accounting Associate supports the Dealer Owned Warranty Company (DOWC) accounting team by preparing and maintaining monthly financial statements for a portfolio of assigned warranty companies. This role partners closely with internal teams, external warranty company owners, and investment advisors to ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and timely financial insights. The position offers exposure to insurance-related accounting, investment activity, and performance reporting in a fully remote environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and book monthly financial statements for assigned warranty companies, including cash transactions, accruals, and investment activity.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including outstanding receivable and payable balances.
- Calculate financial ratios and net worth runoff metrics to support regulatory and financial review needs.
- Prepare quarterly and ad hoc financial performance and review materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as a liaison between Protective Life, warranty company ownership, and investment advisors to support compliance with state insurance laws and regulations.
- Work directly with external owners to provide requested financial data and reporting.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance reporting processes and leverage technology.
- Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned.
Core Competencies (Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities):
- Strong understanding of financial statement preparation and reconciliation processes.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple companies and reporting timelines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across internal and external partners.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- Self-motivated and adaptable, with the ability to apply learned concepts across different situations.
- Open mindset toward new technology, including interest in learning and utilizing AI-enabled tools.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in process improvement
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting or finance experience, or equivalent educational background.
- Experience preparing or supporting financial statements.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to or experience reviewing investment statements.
- Experience with investment accounting activities.
- Prior experience in insurance, warranty, or financial services industries.
- Experience supporting regulatory or compliance-driven financial reporting.
$52,500 - $75,000 a year
Protective’s targeted compensation for this position is $52,500-75,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees.
The internal title for this role is Analyst General Accounting.
