Job Description
The Lead Engineer is responsible for the design and delivery of Claims applications and supporting tools, providing hands‑on technical leadership across the development team. Working closely with Technology peers and business stakeholders, this role translates business requirements into scalable, high‑quality solutions while promoting strong engineering standards, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
The role requires rapid acquisition of deep knowledge across Claims systems, agile delivery practices, and the insurance domain. The Lead Engineer operates autonomously, takes ownership of complex technical challenges, and brings experience, or a strong appetite to build capability, in cloud PaaS environments, modern API development, and solution architecture. They apply composable architecture principles to deliver modular, reusable, and future‑ready solutions, influencing architectural decisions and embedding sustainable engineering practices across platforms.
In this role you will:
- Develop a deep understanding of the functionality, architecture, and integration points of Claims applications and related platforms
- Lead the breakdown of epics and user stories into actionable tasks, providing accurate sizing estimates and guiding prioritisation
- Design and deliver reliable, scalable software that meets business requirements, while proactively managing and reducing technical debt
- Ensure that security, performance, availability, and other non-functional requirements are embedded into solution design and deliver
- Oversee the scripting and execution of automated tests, ensuring test coverage and quality standards are maintained
- Champion a culture of high quality, continuous improvement, and innovation by adhering to and evolving engineering standards, sharing knowledge, and driving best practices
- Apply composable architecture principles to influence the design of sustainable, reusable, and simple solutions across Claims Digital and other platforms
Qualifications
- Degree in IT or related field
- 5+ years in software development, including .NET. Strong C#.NET and ASP.NET Programming skills,
- Experience with TDD and agile delivery
- Proven leadership in technical initiatives
- Demonstrable experience of development of full-stack applications, Cloud platforms, particularly Azure, API development
- Hand-on skills in SQL programming language for Microsoft SQL Server
Desirable
- Background in Financial Services or Insurance
- Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and modern front-end frameworks (e.g. Angular, React)
- Experience with RESTful services, microservices, and cloud-based development
