Job Description
This role leads a team within TAL’s Litigation & External Dispute Resolution function, providing trusted legal expertise to support fair, timely and commercially sound outcomes for our customers and partners. By guiding the management of litigation and external disputes and offering strategic legal advice across the business, the role helps ensure TAL operates with integrity, accountability and compliance. Through strong collaboration and deep understanding of TAL’s business, you will play a key role in protecting our customers, supporting informed decision-making and enabling TAL to deliver on our purpose of protecting what matters most.
In This Role You Will:
Lead and develop a team of legal and dispute resolution specialists to deliver high-quality outcomes across litigation and external disputes.
Oversee and resolve complex litigation and AFCA matters to achieve fair, timely and commercially sound outcomes for customers and partners.
Provide strategic legal advice to claims, underwriting and business teams to support confident decision-making and risk management.
Strengthen regulatory engagement by supporting TAL’s relationship with AFCA and ensuring effective management of external complaints.
Build trusted partnerships with internal stakeholders and external partners to manage disputes collaboratively and protect customer outcomes.
Represent TAL in industry forums to share insights, strengthen capability and contribute to evolving dispute resolution practices.
Qualifications
Admitted to practise law with substantial experience (8+ years PQE) in financial services, including strong knowledge of the Insurance Contracts Act, Life Insurance Act, AFCA Rules, civil procedure, and dispute resolution processes.
Proven experience managing matters through courts and external dispute resolution bodies with professionalism and confidence.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex legal matters and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Strong drafting skills, producing clear, concise, and accurate legal documentation.
Collaborative team player who builds positive working relationships and contributes constructively to group goals.
Highly organised with excellent time management, able to prioritise effectively and stay motivated in a fast-paced environment.
