HRL - Laboratory Services

HRL - Laboratory Services, founded in 1994, is a specialized laboratory providing services in study design, assay selection, and laboratory testing. We primarily support the coagulation research community in Canada and internationally. Our areas of interest include Immunothrombosis, complement marker testing, and cytokine analysis. We accommodate testing for both human and various animal test models.

HRL is a Canadian blood testing laboratory that complements Universal Biosensors Inc. (UBI), a global biosensor company. UBI specializes in electrochemical cell technology, with an aim to use its patented biosensor technology to develop a range of biosensor test strips for hand-held portable analyzers. These analyzers are designed for cost-effective, easy, and accurate detection of analytes of interest across multiple industries, including human health, animal health, environmental, and agriculture. UBI is a USA Delaware company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX:UBI), operating from its head office, manufacturing facility, and research laboratory located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

UBI’s technology has delivered over 10 billion diagnostic tests to patients globally through its glucose and coagulation products. Its core technology is based on a disposable, multi-layer test strip that incorporates an electrochemical sensing system using opposing electrodes. This system detects specific analytes rapidly and accurately from small samples, such as an 8 μL droplet. The company develops point-of-use devices that combine signal processing with touchscreen user interfaces.

UBI’s products include the Sentia™ handheld wine analyzer, launched in 2021, which measures six assays for wine production. In 2022, UBI launched Xprecia Prime™, a blood coagulation analyzer, in the EU and UK, followed by a US launch in 2024 after FDA 510(k) approval and CLIA waiver. PETRACKR®, a veterinary blood glucometer for monitoring diabetes in cats and dogs, launched in May 2023.
