Job Description

About Voltus

Voltus is the leading virtual power plant operator of distributed energy resources. Voltus pays energy users to reduce or shift electricity use in response to grid stress, high prices, and high emissions. Our mission is to be the Distributed Energy Platform that fulfills the promise of the energy transition. The Voltus platform connects any distributed energy resources (DERs) to any energy markets across the US and Canada, providing flexibility, reliability, and resilience to the grid while generating revenue for our partners. By partnering with industry leaders and the DER ecosystem, we are building the decarbonized, distributed, decentralized, and digitized energy system of the future.

We hire teammates who are bright, gritty, and good and who have a genuine passion for delivering a cleaner energy future and for working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Voltus is a remote and virtual company, distributed across US, Canada, and abroad with many team members in New York, San Francisco, Boston, Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington, DC and other cities.

The Role

We’re searching for a whip-smart, entrepreneurial energy nerd with a passion for energy markets  and a sharp eye for process and tool improvement to join our world-class team as an Energy Markets Analyst. This role offers broad exposure across Energy Markets, with a particular focus on growing our participation in NYISO’s wholesale programs. The Analyst will work within the NYISO Energy Markets team, and across other markets and functions within the company, to manage program participation, adapt and establish best practices, standardize workflows, and unlock scalable approaches that support both internal execution and external growth.

In this role, you will be tasked with managing our participation in the NYISO Wholesale Capacity market through the Special Case Resources (SCR) program and the Distributed Energy Resource Participation Model (DER PM). You will work closely with the rest of the NYISO team, and collaborate closely across Sales, Partnerships, Product, Engineering, and Operations to ensure optimal participation, streamline processes, and build durable, scalable solutions. You will play a critical role in reducing manual effort, improving tooling, and expanding our ability to scale in these programs.

If you’re bright, gritty, and intellectually curious, with a mindset that blends creativity, technical rigor and process optimization, you’ll thrive here.

This is a remote role, with flexibility to work from anywhere, while engaging in market-facing activities and collaborating with teammates and stakeholders during continental U.S. business hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and enhance tools that support participation in NYISO’s Wholesale Capacity Market.

  • Understand and communicate program rules into easy-to-understand instructions for account managers and customers, as well as technical requirements for product development.

  • Develop and contribute to analytical tools that support both operational and customer-facing needs.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Finance, and Product to enhance the margin and overall performance of our portfolios.

  • Innovate and generate new ideas for how Voltus can continue to deliver Better Energy and More Cash to our customers.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work product.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Uncommonly driven to succeed and maniacally self-initiated.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment.

  • Programming experience in Python, SQL, Strong technical proficiency in Excel.

  • Exhibited interest in the energy and/or climate space.

  • Experience in the demand-side energy industry (Preferred, not required).

  • 1-2 years of work experience.

$80,000 - $95,000 a year

Base pay is $80,000-$95,000 annually, commensurate with experience, with 10-15% bonus paid semi-annually, and equity. In addition to a competitive compensation package, Voltus offers a range of benefits including: unlimited leave for full-time employees, parental leave, and a comprehensive benefits package to promote health, wellness, and financial security.

Please note that at this time, we do not sponsor visas or transfers for new hires. Voltus teammates need to be authorized to work from their home location (in the US or Canada, unless otherwise indicated on the role description).

Additionally, while Voltus is an all-remote workplace, we have limitations on where employees are able to work for regulatory and security reasons. We expect that Voltans are working primarily from their home country. Working while traveling to other countries must be approved as per our Global Remote Travel Policy.

At Voltus, we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer because we recognize that a diverse organization begins with a diverse candidate pool. This means we do not tolerate discrimination of any kind and are committed to providing equal employment opportunities regardless of your gender identity, race, nationality, religion, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, disability status, or marital status.

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
