Job Description
We’re looking for a Long-Form Copywriter who specializes in content like blogs, editorial pieces, feature articles, and pillar content that builds authority and earns search visibility. This is not a role for generalist writers who occasionally produce longer work. We need someone whose native format is the long read: a writer who can sustain a voice and an argument across thousands of words, develop genuine subject-matter fluency, and make complex topics engaging without sacrificing rigor.
The ideal candidate brings equal command of craft and strategy, knowing how to structure a piece for both the human reader and the search algorithm, build a content series with a coherent editorial point of view, and consistently deliver work that sounds unmistakably like the brand, no matter the topic or length.
Project Type: Contract
Role: Copywriter
Location: Remote (CST or EST preferred)
Long-Form Content Creation: Research, develop, and write high-quality blog posts, editorial articles, feature-length pieces, and deep-dive content across relevant topic areas—consistently meeting quality, length, and brand voice standards.
SEO Strategy & Execution: Apply keyword research, search intent analysis, and on-page SEO best practices to every piece of content; develop and optimize articles to rank and sustain organic visibility over time.
Subject-Matter Authority Development: Build genuine fluency in assigned topic areas—personal finance, travel, rewards, lifestyle, and others—producing content that reads as authoritative rather than surface-level.
Pillar Content & Content Series: Conceive and execute content series and pillar page strategies that create interconnected, search-optimized bodies of work with a clear editorial throughline.
Research & Source Development: Conduct thorough research using primary and secondary sources; synthesize data, expert perspectives, and brand messaging into cohesive, credible narratives.
Brand Voice Consistency: Maintain Capital One’s brand voice with precision across long pieces—adapting tone for topic and audience while keeping the writing grounded in the brand’s character.
Editorial Collaboration: Work closely with content strategists, SEO leads, and brand stakeholders to align on briefs, incorporate feedback, and deliver polished final drafts on deadline.
Qualifications
5–8 years of professional copywriting or content writing experience, with a portfolio that demonstrates depth and range in long-form work.
Proven expertise in SEO writing, keyword strategy, search intent, content structure, and optimization, not just familiarity with the concept.
Strong editorial instincts: the ability to develop a compelling angle, sustain narrative momentum, and structure long-form arguments that hold a reader’s attention from opening to close.
Demonstrated ability to develop subject-matter fluency quickly and write with authority across topics that may initially be unfamiliar.
Experience writing pillar content and content series with a coherent editorial strategy, not just standalone articles.
Excellent research skills; able to identify credible sources, synthesize complex information, and translate it into accessible, engaging prose.
Disciplined brand voice adherence—able to internalize a brand’s tone and apply it consistently across varying formats and topics.
Strong self-editing skills and the ability to deliver clean, publication-ready drafts with minimal revision cycles.
Writing samples of 1,000+ word pieces required; samples demonstrating SEO strategy and performance are strongly preferred.
