Job Description
We’re looking for a Product & Technical Copywriter who can write about the details of innovation with credibility and clarity. Capital One is a technology company that happens to be in financial services—its Tech Tower represents a serious, scaled investment in cloud infrastructure, AI/ML, data engineering, and platform development. This role creates content that showcases that depth: positioning Capital One as a leader in the tech space, building authority with technical audiences, and attracting the engineers, builders, and partners who are looking for exactly this kind of work.
Project Type: Contract
Role: Copywriter
Location: Remote (CST or EST preferred)
The defining skill here is the ability to move fluidly between audiences—writing with enough technical precision to earn credibility with developers and engineers, while making complex concepts accessible and compelling to non-technical readers. These writers don’t simplify by flattening; they simplify by finding the right language for the right reader without losing the substance that makes the content worth reading.
Key Responsibilities
Innovation & Product Content: Develop content that showcases Capital One’s technology capabilities—cloud infrastructure, AI/ML applications, data platforms, and fintech innovation—across blogs, articles, white papers, and thought leadership pieces.
Technical Thought Leadership: Write authoritative long-form content that positions Capital One engineers, researchers, and product leaders as credible voices in the broader tech industry.
Dual-Audience Translation: Craft content that works for both technical readers (developers, engineers, data scientists) and non-technical stakeholders (business leaders, potential partners, general audiences)—adjusting depth and language without sacrificing accuracy.
Developer-Adjacent Content: Write content that resonates with engineering and developer audiences—including technical blog posts, platform narratives, API or product overviews, and open-source or community-facing content.
Recruiting & Partnership Content: Support talent attraction and partnership development through content that communicates Capital One’s tech culture, engineering values, and innovation agenda to prospective hires and external collaborators.
Brand Voice in a Technical Context: Apply Capital One’s brand voice consistently across technical content—ensuring the writing never loses its human quality in the pursuit of credibility.
Subject-Matter Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, product managers, researchers, and technical leads to extract insights, understand complex topics deeply, and shape them into content that holds up under scrutiny.
Qualifications
5–8 years of copywriting or content writing experience with a clear focus on technology, product, or innovation content—demonstrated through a portfolio of technical writing for brand or industry audiences.
Genuine fluency in tech industry subject matter: cloud computing, AI/ML, data infrastructure, platform engineering, fintech, or adjacent domains. Familiarity with terminology is not sufficient—candidates must demonstrate conceptual understanding.
Proven ability to write for both technical and non-technical audiences within the same body of work, adjusting register and depth without producing two entirely different pieces.
Strong research and interview skills; able to extract usable insight from subject-matter experts and translate it into clear, credible content without distortion.
Experience writing technical thought leadership, developer-facing content, or innovation narratives in a brand or corporate context.
Excellent command of brand voice; able to maintain a brand’s character and human quality across content that could otherwise read as dry or overly functional.
Highly organized and self-directed; comfortable managing multiple content workstreams with varying technical depth and audience requirements.
Portfolio samples demonstrating technical content—not general marketing copy—are required. Candidates should be prepared to discuss the technical subject matter in their samples.
