About World Surf League
We are a global sports media and entertainment company that governs professional surfing. Established in 1976, we manage competitive surfing worldwide, with The Championship Tour crowning men’s and women’s world champions each year. We also qualify surfers for the Olympics, including the 2024 Olympics in Teahupo’o, Tahiti.
We partner with brands on engagement platforms. Our content reaches over 525 million homes globally via television and is live-streamed on Facebook, YouTube, and our website/app. The league and its athletes have over 100 million social media followers and extend their reach through connected devices and TikTok.
WSL Studios, our entertainment production arm, creates original lifestyle content, documentaries, and series. WSL Studios has produced content for HBO, The Walt Disney Company, and Apple TV, including “Make or Break season 2”.
Beyond the Championship Tour, we organize other competitions, including the Challenger Series, World Junior Championships, Qualifying Series, Longboard International Qualifying events, and Big Wave Challenges, like the TUDOR Nazaré Big Wave Challenge. We provide surfing news, live event coverage, videos, and athlete rankings. Our team size is between 51 and 200 employees.
Mission & Values
We are committed to protecting the ocean, promoting equality, and preserving surfing’s heritage. We also support progression and innovation in the sport.
Team & Culture
We look for passionate innovators, entrepreneurs, and collaborators. Our international team is dedicated to excellence. Our connection to the ocean means we have an eco-centric perspective.
We operate with a “start-up spirit,” valuing agility, risk-taking, and continuous learning. Our employees are international, progressive, eco-minded, and passionate, sharing an enthusiasm for surfing, the ocean, and living life to the fullest. While some roles involve global travel, our headquarters are in Los Angeles.
Certain roles offer a hybrid work schedule, preferring three days a week in the Playa Del Rey office. We are an equal opportunity employer. While an understanding of surfing and its culture is helpful, it’s not a requirement for employment.
