You will collaborate with experienced engineers across domains while solving complex data, performance, and distributed systems challenges.
We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager with a strong technical background and leadership skills to lead a cross-functional team. You will be responsible for team performance, predictable delivery, and engineering quality while contributing to architecture and code when needed.
You will report to the Head of Engineering / Engineering director and work closely with Product, Design, and Analytics to deliver business impact

Job Description
Responsibilities
Team Leadership & People Management
Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team (4-9 people), providing context, focus, and clear goals
Hire, mentor, and develop engineers; run performance reviews and continuous feedback cycles
Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and engineering excellence
Hold the team accountable for outcomes, quality, and delivery predictability
Delivery & Execution
Own end-to-end delivery: planning, prioritisation, decomposition, and dependency management
Manage risks, remove blockers, and ensure on-time or ahead-of-schedule execution
Drive roadmap and OKRs together with Product and stakeholders
Communicate plans, progress, and trade-offs to senior stakeholders
Technical Leadership (Hands-On up to ~40%)
Contribute to architecture, prototypes, and critical code paths when needed
Validate technical solutions: service design, integrations, data models, contracts, reliability
Ensure technical initiatives are aligned with the product roadmap and appropriately prioritized
Engineering Excellence
Establish and improve engineering practices in line with corporate standards: code reviews, testing strategy, CI/CD, observability, incident management
Ensure scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems using Clean Architecture principles
Drive performance, profiling, and cost-efficiency improvements
Promote AI-agent-driven development and modern developer productivity practices
Technical Scope
Strong system design and delivery experience
Experience working with modern architectures (e.g., event-driven systems, queues/streams, caching, rate limiting, service integrations)
Solid understanding of data modeling, performance optimisation, and reliability principles
Experience with cloud environments and infrastructure as code (e.g., AWS or comparable platforms, CI/CD, containerisation)
Familiarity with observability, incident management, and operational excellence practices
Our current primary stack includes Node.js, TypeScript, AWS (API Gateway, Lambda, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, ECS/Fargate), GitHub, Docker, CircleCI, and Terraform
Qualifications
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years of people management experience with responsibility for team outcomes and delivery
- Proven ownership of team performance, people development, and predictable delivery
- Strong experience designing scalable services and distributed systems
- Experience building pragmatic processes that improve quality without bureaucracy
- Hands-on experience with modern development tooling and AI-assisted workflows
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills in English (German is a plus)
- Demonstrated ability to rapidly master new technical domains and deep dive into diverse stacks, from web to native applications
