Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g’day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be time consuming and you’re probably keen to find out what’s on offer — so let’s get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney, with hubs in Melbourne and co-working spaces across Australia and New Zealand. But at Canva, we believe work should fit around life — not the other way around. You choose where and how you work best.

Job Description

What you’d be doing in this role

Editing is at the heart of the Canva product — and the Editing API team makes it possible for teams across Canva (and beyond) to plug into it. We build powerful, well-supported APIs that unlock editing functionality for internal teams and external developers alike.

As an Engineering Manager in this space, you’ll lead a team of passionate engineers building the foundation for hundreds of features across Canva. You’ll shape technical strategy, partner with product to align priorities, and guide the team to deliver scalable APIs that power the magic of Canva’s editor — with a special focus on enabling emerging use cases like AI.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Coaching and growing a high-performing team of engineers
  • Driving technical excellence in the APIs that power Canva’s editor
  • Partnering with stakeholders across product, engineering, and design - in particular our GenAI group
  • Shaping the roadmap and future strategy for Editing APIs
  • Leading the delivery of cross-cutting initiatives with autonomy and impact
  • Championing scalable, safe, and performant systems used Canva-wide

You’re probably a match if:

  • You’ve led technical teams before and thrive mentoring engineers
  • You’ve built or worked with APIs, frameworks or developer platforms
  • You have experience in our frontend stack which consists of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, TypeScript, MobX, etc. Experience in some of these would be valuable but is not required.
  • You have success in your customers being internal stakeholders
  • You’re confident navigating ambiguity and balancing priorities
  • You value collaboration and know how to bring people along the journey
  • You’re excited by the opportunity to shape a foundational part of Canva’s product

About the team

The Editing API team builds the internal and external APIs that power Canva’s editor — from placing elements on the page to enabling collaborative workflows. We’re a small but mighty team enabling hundreds of developers across Canva, and hundreds of thousands of users beyond. If you’re excited by building for builders, and making complex systems feel simple, this could be the team for you.

What’s in it for you?

Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard — and we do — but you’ll experience plenty of moments of magic, connection and celebration along the way. We offer:

• Equity packages — we want our success to be yours too

• Inclusive parental leave policy for all parents & carers

• Annual Vibe & Thrive allowance for wellbeing, social connection, and more

• Flexible leave options to recharge, grow, and give back
