About Crisis Text Line
We are a nonprofit that provides free, 24⁄7 text-based mental health support and crisis intervention in English and Spanish. You can connect with a live, trained volunteer Crisis Counselor by texting HOME, SHARE, or APOYO to 741741 in the United States and Canada.
We help people through various challenges, including stress, anxiety, loneliness, bullying, substance use, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts. Since launching in 2013, we have had over 16 million conversations globally, with over 11 million in the U.S. About 84% of texters find our service helpful, and most experience a positive change in mood. We combine human connection with technology to offer both crisis intervention and prevention.
We also work with international affiliates like Shout in the UK, Kids Help Phone in Canada, and Text About It by spunout in Ireland. We partner with NGOs, foundations, corporations, and government agencies to support individuals and communities.
Mission & Values
Our mission is to help people with their mental well-being wherever they are, blending empathy with innovation. We envision an empathetic world where no one feels alone.
We are nonjudgmental and committed to supporting people of all races, ethnicities, political affiliations, religions, ages, sexual orientations, gender identities, disabilities, and socioeconomic statuses. We use empathy and active listening to help texters, and we constantly improve our service by learning from our community.
Team & Culture
We have 201-500 employees and over 100,000 trained volunteer Crisis Counselors around the world. Our culture focuses on empathy and innovation, dedicated to supporting people in need.
Volunteer Crisis Counselors work remotely, committing to 200 hours of volunteering (typically 4 hours per week) after completing a training period. We encourage our employees to prioritize balance and self-care, which includes taking paid vacation.
Benefits & Perks
We provide medical, dental, and vision benefits, along with 403(b) plans. Employees receive three weeks of paid vacation, and we encourage taking time for balance and self-care.
After three years, staff members are eligible for a paid month-long sabbatical to volunteer anywhere in the world. We offer competitive salaries.
