Role Overview
The Senior Quality Assurance Tester role is responsible for carrying out QA, technical and functional testing services and related consulting activities for Datacom and Datacom clients.
Role Responsibilities
The Senior Quality Assurance Tester is responsible for (but not limited to):
- Performing work that achieves desired business outcomes and adheres to best-practice methodology and good process.
- Being a proactive and collaborative member of the wider Datacom team and organisation, taking part in activities as required.
- Providing support to management, managing teams where required and coaching/mentoring to junior roles.
- Contributing ideas, initiatives and process improvement internally and to clients where the opportunity presents.
- Promoting collaboration and learning, fun and team spirit consistent with Datacom culture and brand values to clients, within Datacom and to the Datacom Community of Practice
- Debugging software products using systematic tests to develop, apply, and maintain quality standards for company products.
- Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of software releases to ensure changes are delivered smoothly, safely, and in line with organisational processes.
- Analysing and writing test standards and procedures.
- Maintaining documentation of test results to assist in debugging and modification of software.
- Analysing test results to ensure existing functionality and recommends corrective action.
- Consulting with development engineers in resolution of problems.
- Providing feedback in preparation of technical appraisals of programming languages, systems, and computation software.
- Ensuring overall quality is in place for customer consumption in line with intended operation.
- Takes reasonable care that their actions (or inactions) do not harm the Health and Safety of self or others. Reports all incidents, hazards or unsafe work practices as per Datacom policy.
Knowledge
- Thorough understanding of Quality Assurance best practices.
- Understanding of the IT market and relationship to the business.
- Β Broad understanding of technical concepts and frameworks to ensure agreed standards are met.
- Understanding of how software releases are planned, approved, and deployed within an organisation.
- Familiarity with using tools such as Jira or ServiceNow SPM for work tracking
Experience
- 5+ years of years of experience in the related industry (software testing/technical or development background).
- Experience with Software Testing Methodologies in a full development shop (3-5 years).
- Experience with Structured Test Management Tools including defect management
- Experience coordinating software release activities, including scheduling, documentation, and communication with stakeholders.
- Experience supporting teams through change control, readiness checks, and approval processes.
- Experience supporting ServiceNow deployments or testing activities.
Skills
- Strong organisational skills to manage testing timelines, release calendars, and multiple workstreams.
- Ability to coordinate across teams, resolve issues, and keep work moving.
- Ability to create clear documentation such as test plans, release notes, and change summaries.
- Production of Quality Assurance and Test Planning documents as per agreed methodology (e.g., Test Strategies, Test Plans, Test Cases, Test Scripts, Defect & Results reports, etc).
- Have accountability for signoff on testing phases, testing types and outcomes.
- Interact with relevant parties (e.g., software/developers/product owners) to determine quality parameters and boundaries.
- Identifies and establish test standards, methods and relevant test tools to be utilised to ensure proper test coverage.
- Identifies Risk and the appropriate
- Mitigation in all quality related activities.
- Provide analysis and support to the QA /Test Lead or Manager for planning of testing or strategy activities.
- Prioritisation of work within agreed plans as established by QA/Test Lead or Manager.
