Job Description

Oportun (Nasdaq: OPRT) is a mission-driven financial services company that puts its members’ financial goals within reach. With intelligent borrowing, savings, and budgeting capabilities, Oportun empowers members with the confidence to build a better financial future. Since inception, Oportun has provided more than $22.7 billion in responsible and affordable credit, saved its members more than $2.5 billion in interest and fees, and helped its members set aside an average of more than $1,800 annually.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Manager, Marketing Data and Technology to own the reliability of the data and technical processes that support Oportun’s marketing ecosystem. You’ll ensure marketing data is accurate, complete, consistent, and available across platforms and internal systems to support campaign execution, measurement, attribution, and growth.
This is a hands-on role with significant ownership. You’ll serve as the primary owner for assigned MarTech systems, integrations, and tracking processes, working independently to identify issues, recommend solutions, and drive improvements through implementation. You’ll partner closely with Marketing, Analytics, Product, Engineering, and external vendors to keep systems reliable and data flowing correctly.
At Oportun, we move fast and we hold each other to a high bar. If you care about doing your best work while actually moving the needle for real people, you’ll fit right in.
What You’ll Do
Your day-to-day
- You’ll own marketing data quality across assigned platforms and internal databases, including accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timely delivery.
- You’ll build and maintain validation, reconciliation, monitoring, and alerting processes to identify missing records, discrepancies, and failed data flows.
- You’ll investigate root causes of data and integration issues and drive solutions through implementation and ongoing monitoring.
- You’ll manage website tagging and tracking, including Google Analytics, tag management configurations, pixels, and event implementations.
- You’ll configure, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot APIs, webhooks, and data integrations between marketing vendors and internal systems.
- You’ll use Python or SQL to query, validate, transform, and reconcile data and automate recurring operational tasks.
- You’ll manage and troubleshoot assigned MarTech tools and configurations to support reliable data collection, audience activation, and reporting.
- You’ll establish and maintain consistent UTM parameters, campaign naming conventions, and tracking standards to improve attribution and measurement.
- You’ll identify data gaps, process weaknesses, and opportunities to improve tracking, integrations, automation, and operational efficiency.
- You’ll document data flows, tracking definitions, configurations, validation procedures, and troubleshooting processes to support team continuity and reliable operations.
- You’ll coordinate with cross-functional partners and vendors on requirements, testing, releases, issue resolution, priorities, and risks.
- You’ll look for practical ways to use AI and automation to improve data validation, monitoring, troubleshooting, documentation, and operational efficiency.
- You’ll look for ways to use AI tools thoughtfully — to work smarter, reduce manual work, and make better decisions faster
Who You Are
The right fit looks like this
You’re a hands-on technical marketer who enjoys solving data and systems problems and taking ownership from issue identification through resolution. You’re comfortable working independently, but you also know when to bring in the right partners.
You’re detail-oriented, proactive, and process-minded. You care about data quality, clear documentation, and reliable systems, and you consistently look for ways to make technical workflows more scalable and efficient.
What You Bring
Skills & experience
Required
- 5+ years of relevant experience in marketing technology, marketing data operations, data engineering, marketing analytics, or a similar technical role.
- Proficiency in Python or SQL, with the ability to independently write, troubleshoot, and maintain code for data validation, transformation, or automation.
- Hands-on experience managing website tagging and tracking, including Google Analytics and a tag management platform such as Google Tag Manager or Tealium.
- Experience configuring, testing, and troubleshooting REST APIs, webhooks, and data integrations.
- Experience reconciling data across systems, implementing quality checks, and resolving underlying data issues.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as the primary owner of assigned systems and processes in a small team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, recommend practical solutions, and follow through on implementation.
- Strong organizational, documentation, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to work autonomously across teams, vendors, and time zones while managing competing priorities.
Nice to Have
- Experience establishing or maintaining website and digital tagging frameworks and marketing attribution data.
- Experience with Databricks, customer data platforms, Amplitude, Iterable, or similar marketing and analytics tools.
- Experience with scripting, workflow automation, scheduled data jobs, or monitoring tools.
- Experience in financial services or another environment involving sensitive customer data.
- Familiarity with data privacy, access controls, and governance requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience using AI-assisted tools to improve data analysis, documentation, troubleshooting, or automation.
Our AI Mindset
We build with AI. We lead with judgment.
AI isn’t a feature here. It’s how we work.
We’re excited about what AI makes possible, and we’re looking for people who share that curiosity. You don’t need to be an expert. You need to be open to experimenting, willing to learn, and able to apply new tools in ways that actually move the needle.
In this role, you’ll be encouraged to explore AI tools, find practical use cases for your function, and bring ideas for working smarter. We believe the best outcomes come when human judgment and AI capability work together.
