Job Description
As part of SEEK’s Engineering Platforms group, Team Automat is all about building the platform interface between SEEK’s preferred cloud infrastructure and application engineers, the connective tissue that turns cloud infrastructure capabilities into a seamless build, deploy, and run experience for SEEK’s core applications.
Our mission is to make application delivery feel straightforward and predictable. Application engineers shouldn’t need to reason about Kubernetes internals, cloud primitives, IAM, or networking. Team Automat packages those concerns into well-defined platforms, workflows, and golden paths that enable teams to ship confidently and accelerate delivery to our customers.
Key responsibilities of Team-Automat include:
Platform Interfaces: Developing the primary interfaces through which engineers interact with SEEK’s internal platform, including CLI tools, dashboards, and APIs.
Automation & Developer Tools: Building tools to help engineers create, understand, and operate systems on the platform efficiently.
Platform Guidance & Standards: Providing recommendations and best practices to ensure consistent, high-quality developer experiences across SEEK.
Reliability & Resilience: Ensuring platform services are reliable, observable, and maintainable, aligning with SEEK’s engineering standards.
Continuously improves how we build, ship, and operate software across SEEK’s cloud environments
About the Role
We’re looking for a Staff Platform Engineer to provide senior technical leadership in the Automat team. In this role, you will lead the design, evolution, and operation of our Kubernetes-based platform infrastructure, shaping how SEEK engineers build, deploy, and run their services. Passionate about improving developer experience through shared platform solutions and scalable engineering practices.
You will bring deep expertise in cloud infrastructure, a strong foundation in modern software engineering practices, and a passion for mentoring and lifting others. You’ll help define our platform strategy, build tools and frameworks that improve developer experience, and ensure our systems are secure, reliable, and scalable.
This is a role with broad impact across multiple engineering teams and domains at SEEK.
Key Responsibilities

- Design and build developer-facing tools and automation (including a central CLI) to improve deployment, observability, security, and day‑to‑day workflows.
- Act as a developer advocate, partnering with engineering teams to understand their needs and deliver the right platform capabilities.
- Ensure platform reliability, security, performance, and observability, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Set and champion platform standards, best practices, and modern engineering patterns across Engineering Platforms and the wider organisation.
- Lead, mentor, and coach engineers in a small, high-impact team, shaping the Automat roadmap and lifting technical excellence and delivery.
Additional Context
- Team Automat is building an internal platform on top of Kubernetes, focused on developer tooling, automation, and observability.
- Key technologies include AWS EKS, Istio, Argo CD, Buildkite, PagerDuty, and Datadog.
- The CLI and automation tooling are central to the developer experience.
- You’ll work in a small, high-impact team, contributing to both strategy and hands-on implementation.

Strong software engineering fundamentals, including SDLC, design patterns, and software architecture principles.
Strong software engineering skills for building automation, tooling, platform components, and self-service developer experiences.
Platform engineering experience building and scaling distributed systems at enterprise scale.
Good understanding of Kubernetes for platform building, including experience working with operators, controllers, or developer tooling.
Proven technical leadership driving architectural decisions and strategy across multi-team or multi-tenant platforms.
