Job Description
The Data Product Owner – Claims is responsible for setting the vision, roadmap, and delivery of data products that support high‑quality Claims outcomes across operational, regulatory, and strategic needs. Partnering closely with the Claims business, the role ensures data products are co‑owned, outcome‑focused, and aligned to genuine business requirements, while remaining scalable, well‑governed, and consistent with TAL’s enterprise data strategy.
Acting as a key link across Business, Data & Analytics, Technology, Risk, and Delivery, the role leads prioritisation, value realisation, and delivery across BAU, regulatory, and transformation initiatives. Working with guidance from the Senior Manager – Information Delivery, the Data Product Owner contributes to the Claims data roadmap and the broader DA&D strategic vision, ensuring data solutions are well‑designed, governed, and sustainably deployed. The role also builds strong stakeholder relationships to promote trust and effective use of data products, while proactively identifying and managing data‑related risks through clear standards and operating procedures.
In this role you will:
- Define and own the vision, roadmap, and backlog for Claims data products in partnership with Claims leaders
- Support execution of the DA&D roadmap, ensuring alignment with business strategy, customer outcomes, and commercial goals
- Own and prioritise the Claims data product backlog, making trade-off decisions with business partners
- Partner with Data Engineering, Analytics, Reporting, Architecture, and Platform teams to deliver end-to-end data products
- Ensure accurate and timely delivery of new builds, enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Act as the single point of accountability for Claims data products, building strong relationships across the enterprise
- Ensure Claims data products meet governance, privacy, risk, and regulatory requirements.
- Embed data quality, lineage, controls, and auditability into product design
- Drive automation, consolidation, and standardisation of Claims reporting and data assets
- Work closely with Solution and Enterprise Architects to ensure designs are scalable, compliant, and endorsed through governance forums.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Commerce, Data Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- Postgraduate study or industry certifications in data, analytics, product management, cloud, or AI (preferred)
- 5+ years’ experience in data product ownership, data analytics, information delivery, or related data‑focused roles
- Demonstrated experience delivering data products — including dashboards, reporting solutions, analytical insights, and operational data services — for operational, regulatory, and strategic use cases
- Experience designing and managing data products built on Microsoft technologies (Power BI, Azure Data Platform, Fabric, SQL, Databricks) with exposure to other modern data and analytics technologies
- Experience working in complex data environments with large, intricate data flows and cross‑functional delivery teams (Engineering, Architecture, BI, Risk, Technology)
- Proven ability to partner with senior stakeholders, influence decisions, and manage competing priorities
- Proficiency with tools like Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence
- Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, lineage, controls, and risk management
- Life Insurance or Banking experience including knowledge of financial / actuarial valuation methods and processes.
