The Company
Our client is a PE-backed SaaS company building secure, compliance-driven software for state and local government agencies, including law enforcement and EMS. Their platform supports online training, testing, audits, and compliance workflows for organizations handling highly sensitive data.
The business is profitable, growing, and in an active phase of platform modernization, new product development, and acquisition integration, with a credible near-term exit on the horizon.
The Role
We’re hiring a Head of Engineering to own engineering execution, technical architecture, and cloud infrastructure across a mission-critical SaaS platform.
This role sits at the intersection of people leadership, technical decision-making, and business priorities. You’ll lead a small, experienced team through legacy modernization while continuing to ship new features and integrate newly acquired products.
This is a strong fit for a Director or VP-level engineering leader ready to step into broader ownership and visibility.
What You’ll Own
- Lead and mentor a team of ~6 full-stack engineers plus a BA/Product Manager
- Serve as the senior technical decision-maker across architecture and platform direction
- Own cloud infrastructure and application reliability (Azure)
- Drive ongoing modernization, including migration from legacy Perl to .NET
- Balance technical debt reduction with new feature delivery
- Partner closely with executive leadership on prioritization, roadmap tradeoffs, and exit readiness
- Support light API integrations across products and workflows
- Bring a product-oriented mindset to engineering planning and execution
- Evaluate emerging technologies (including AI) in a regulated, sensitive-data environment
This role is not day-to-day coding, but it does require technical depth, architectural judgment, and the ability to dive in when needed.
Technical Environment
- Backend: .NET / C#, legacy Perl (actively being phased out)
- Frontend: Angular
- Database: MySQL
- Infrastructure: Microsoft Azure
- Platform: Multi-product SaaS with compliance-heavy workflows
What We’re Looking For
Required
- Proven engineering leadership experience (Director, VP, or equivalent)
- Strong systems-level and architectural thinking
- Experience owning cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred)
- SaaS product development background
- Comfort leading teams through legacy-to-modern transitions
- Ability to scope work, prioritize effectively, and make pragmatic tradeoffs
Strong Pluses
- Experience in regulated or compliance-driven software (GovTech, GRC, cybersecurity, healthcare, fintech)
- Product-minded approach to engineering leadership
- API and systems integration experience
- Curiosity about applied AI in secure environments

Compensation
- Base: ~$190,000–$200,000 (flexible for standout candidates)
- Bonus: ~20%
- Total Cash: ~$240,000–$250,000
- Equity: Meaningful equity package
