About Water.org
We were founded in 1990 by Gary White and Matt Damon. We address the global water crisis by providing financial solutions to increase access to safe water and sanitation. Our main initiative, WaterCredit, gives families living in poverty access to small, affordable loans for water and sanitation solutions in their homes. We’ve helped over 85 million people gain lasting access to safe water or sanitation.
We partner with corporations, financial institutions, and foundations across four continents. Together, we’ve mobilized over $7.4 billion in capital with 208 partners. In 2017, we created WaterEquity to fund water and sanitation loan portfolios. In 2024, we launched WaterConnect to support infrastructure projects. We are a US registered 501©(3) organization.
