About the Team

Gorgias’s Legal team is a 2-person AI-first function built for the pace of a scaling SaaS company. Our team mission is to empower our teams by providing legal guidance on topics including contracts, security, and privacy to better support business growth. We’re here to help protect Gorgias and give pro-active legal advices on legal issues and risks

About the Role

Most legal teams in SaaS are still built for a world that no longer exists — one where value comes from volume, and speed is the bottleneck. We’re building something different.

As Legal Counsel at Gorgias, you’ll be the legal brain behind our commercial engine: part deal expert, part coach to sales and finance, part architect of the systems that make it all scale. This is an L3 role based in Toronto (hybrid), supporting our commercial motion and procurement process.

You’ll work directly with our Head of Legal, owning the commercial legal function end-to-end as we scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Own end-to-end negotiation of commercial agreements: SaaS subscription agreements, MSAs, order forms, DPAs.

  • Be the primary legal point of contact for the sales team — coaching reps on deal risks, unblocking negotiations, and setting clear fallback positions

  • Build, maintain, and continuously improve our contract playbook and standard template suite

  • Manage and improve AI-assisted contract workflows (Claude, ChatGpt)

  • Partner with Finance and RevOps on deal structuring, billing terms, and revenue recognition edge cases

  • Handle vendor and inbound technology agreements, including SaaS and data processor relationships

  • Identify patterns across the deal portfolio and translate them into policy, training, or product input

  • Support general commercial legal work as the team scales

Who You Are

Must Haves

  • 3-4 years of commercial legal experience, in-house at a SaaS or tech company, or in tech-focused private practice

  • Startup or scale-up experience: you’ve built or improved a process, not just executed within one

  • Exposure to US market commercial deals — you understand how US enterprise procurement works

  • Comfortable with ambiguity; you close deals, you don’t just flag risk

  • Strong written communication — your redlines are tight, your emails move things forward

  • Genuine curiosity about AI tools and a willingness to work with AI.

Nice to Haves

  • Licensed in both Canada and a US state (dual bar is a strong plus)

  • Experience with AI-assisted contract review tools

What Good Looks Like at 6 Months

  • Contract turnaround time: < 2 business days for standard MSAs

  • Playbook coverage: 90%+ of common commercial scenarios documented

  • Escalations to outside counsel: < 10% of matters

  • AI routing accuracy: < 5% rerouting rate on AI-handled contracts
